El juego se trata de una re-edición de las dos entregas anteriores, algo parecido a lo ya sucedido con anteriores sagas, siendo Exploradores del Cielo como Platino aDiamante y Perla.
En él, la historia es la misma, pero se incluyen una serie de mejoras técnicas, nuevos objetos, tiendas y lugares, y unos capítulos especiales donde se viven nuevas historias controlando a otros personajes del juego, como por ejemplo qué motivó al Gran Bluff a ser explorador, o qué sucede con Grovyle y Dusknoir en el futuro.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is a game developed by Chunsoft, and is a sister game to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. It is the fifth entry in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, an adaptation of the Mystery Dungeon games for Pokémon. The game was first announced in CoroCoro, which released the first details in January 2009. It was officially released in Japan on April 18, 2009 and in North America on October 12, 2009.
